A Book Review of Held Hostage By Bonnie McKeating

Let me start by saying that i have heard about this book from a dear friend, who urged me into giving this book a try. At first I was hesitant, until I picked up the book and was introduced to the characters.
Both James and Emily are such deep and entrenching characters that I found myself reflecting on their choices and decisions as if they were my own. Bonnie McKeating tackles the often controversial topic of mental illness and elegantly crafts a story that is as captivating as it is honest. Geared with real-life experience, McKeating has effortlessly put her foot down as the next big author in Young Adult fiction.

I would personally recommend this book to anyone who loves a heart-gripping story about love. The only downside to this book is that it has an ending, leaving you hungry for more of McKeating's writing. For several days after reading this book, I could not stop contemplating about my life and my love.  I was so deeply embedded in the story that I found and pondered about the parallels between my normal life and that of James, a character suffering from schizophrenia. McKeating gives her characters such a unique and dynamic human dimension that it is hard not to see your face reflecting off the white space in between the lines of this fantastic narrative.

Thank you for reading this book review. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
